Basso Hangs On

Team CSC kept the other favorites in a short leash during the 223-kilometer 14th stage of Giro d’Italia from Aosta to Domodossola. A break was allowed, while Ivan Basso sat well protected in the peloton, surrounded by his team mates.

”The team was really strong today and everyone worked hard especially on the first climb. None of the other favorites were allowed to escape, and we were able to control the stage all the way through. I’m expecting tomorrow to be fairly uneventful before it gets serious again on Tuesday with another summit finish,” said sports director Alain Gallopin after the stage, which was won by Luis Laverde (Panaria).
